***How to Help Your Child Transition Successfully from College to Career

Iâ™ve been saying for years that colleges do virtually nothing to prepare new graduates for the âœreal work-world.â Most college placement offices are woefully inadequate â" and knowing this, most students avoid using these services altogether. Graduating from a fine university does NOT guarantee that a student will have a clear career direction, or that a student will know how to mount a successful job search campaign.

You may have heard the term âœBoomerang Kids.â This describes the growing number of recent graduates who return home to live with their parents â" often well into their thirties! Needless to say, this is not the outcome most parents had in mind when they sent their kids off to college.

So, whatâ™s a parent to do?! Here are seven suggestions for parents, based on actual work weâ™ve done with recent college graduates. Following these recommendations will help produce far better results than those described above:

1. Invest in coaching. After spending tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars on college, itâ™s a pretty sure bet that your children never received ANY training or guidance in how to choose a career, get a job, or participate productively in the workforce. Donâ™t let all that money go to waste. Invest another 1%-5% to ensure that your childrenâ™s education will pay-off â" with smarter career choices, better jobs, and higher long-term compensation.

2. Teach your children responsible work . Patience, discipline, respect, industriousness and punctuality are that were âœassumedâ in previous generations of new workers â" but these qualities are all too rare among recent college graduates. Employers complain about this, and they are worried about how to find, develop and retain a workforce to replace the huge numbers of retiring baby boomers. The new employees who will get ahead are the ones who embrace and embody these traits. Therefore, parents should strive to model these behaviors and instill these qualities early in the lives of their children.

3. Donâ™t tell your children that, âœIf they finish college, theyâ™ll be assured of a successful career.â This may have been true several generations ago, but it certainly isnâ™t true any longer. Todayâ™s college degree is yesterdayâ™s high school diploma â" and it doesnâ™t guarantee ANYTHING. To succeed in todayâ™s work-world, your children will need much more than a college degree. Theyâ™ll need your guidance, along with talent, determination, persistence, a strong work ethic and maybe a bit of good luck. Theyâ™ll also need a real-world perspective on what it REALLY takes to succeed.

4. Provide your children with resources, support and encouragement â" but donâ™t coddle them. Many new college graduates have never had to work or assume responsibility for earning any level of income. Naturally, this leads to problems when the child graduates from college and is suddenly thrust into the job market. Even worse, many parents have indulged or âœspoiledâ their children, leading to a sense of entitlement. Your children will have to work for a long time, and itâ™s important that they get used to this idea from a young age. Once your children have finished school, make it clear that they must take responsibility for their own career and income, through good times and bad.

5. Explain to your children how important it is to create and control their image on the Internet. Every new worker has (or will soon have) an online presence. In this age of cell phone cameras, You Tube, and Face Book, the trail your children leave on the Internet will follow them for a long time to come. Employers know this, and they research job candidates on the Internet before making hiring decisions. It is vitally important that every young person take control of their online identity, and carefully monitor the âœpersonal brandâ theyâ™re building on the Internet. Encourage your kids to use online career management tools such as Linked-In and VisualCV, to optimize and leverage their online presence.

6. Help your children get their first âœbreakâ by leveraging relationships and business contacts. The work world is more competitive than ever, and new graduates face serious challenges in getting their careers started-out on the right foot. Even the most qualified young candidate can benefit from a bit of help in the form of âœconnections.â Rather than being overly proud and rejecting such assistance, encourage your children to welcome the idea of âœgetting a breakâ through friends or as they launch their careers. It will still be up to your children to prove themselves on the job, or they wonâ™t be employed there for long â" even if theyâ™re related to the boss.

7. Allow your children to pursue the career path they truly love; not the career path you think they should love. If your child is fortunate enough to discover a professional path that he or she truly loves, you must encourage and facilitate their pursuit of that career. Put the necessary time and resources into this mission, and the results will be powerful. If your children struggle with identifying their best career directions, engage a professional to help them find their right work. Avoid the temptation to push your children into the career paths YOU think they should follow. Instead, let them find their own gifts and passions. This is one of the most generous and healthy things a parent can do for a child.

How To Find Luxury NYC Apartment Rentals
The list of likes and dislikes may be long, but it is this kind of exercise that will help you get the most out of your new apartment rental. Another list you should prepare in advance and take with you when you begin your search is a list of "must haves." Also make a list of the things you are trying to avoid. These lists are equally important in selecting your next home.

Things to consider: Keep in mind where you work and the maximum distance that you are willing to travel to that job. Ask yourself: Where are the subway locations in reference to the new neighborhood I'm looking in, and how long will it take me to get to those stops? Are my favorite places nearby or would I have easy access to them? Can I get groceries delivered to my new neighborhood?

Finding an apartment in New York City involves all of these questions. The answer to most of the vicinity questions is yes…everything is close in New York City. If you lose a favorite coffee shop then you are bound to find a good replacement in your new neighborhood. There are hundreds of coffee shops for you to discover, many new grocers to be sampled, and thousands of new people to meet.

Look on Internet sites and in apartment rentals guidebook to locate apartment buildings in the area where you want to live. Also consider the amenities you would like and the price you are willing to pay. After you narrow down your search based on location, amenities and price then you can start making appointments to visit the apartment communities. When you meet with the leasing representative or building manager consider the following: Is the property well-maintained? Does the health club have your favorite exercise machine? Is the building pet-friendly? Do the hallways smell fresh? Do not make a decision until you have visited at least three different places. Even if the first one seems ideal, do not make a hasty decision you will have to live with for the length of your lease.

Once you have made your choice, make another appointment with the leasing representative or building manager. Execute your lease, confirm your move-in date, and make sure you know the correct person to contact if there are any hiccups on moving day. If the building does not offer move-in coordination, be sure to get a list of phone numbers to call to switch power into your name and to obtain cable service and immediate internet access.

The Significance of Using Basket, Box and Tray Washers
These new containers, usually plastic, are used to transport food products, store the food products, and even display the food before they are emptied and sent off to be refilled. This leaves them potentially crawling with bacteria and at risk of contravening health and safety standards, and furthermore, if consumers see food in a grimy box, they are less likely to buy it, so unclean boxes, baskets and trays could lose suppliers and businesses money, put consumers at risk because of the residual bacteria, and break the law by failing to meet health and safety standards. So, I hear you cry, what can be done?

Well, it turns out there is a simple solution in the form of basket, box and tray washers. These are an industrial variant on the commercial dishwasher, bigger than anything found in restaurant kitchens and enormous compared to the domestic machines, which are designed specifically to clean large storage containers usually used to transport food products.

Not only do they offer a more thorough clean than your average commercial dishwasher, washing baskets, boxes and trays from above, below and both sides to ensure all traces of dirt and bacteria are totally eradicated, and do so rapidly, cleaning a minimum of 150 boxes or baskets an hour. This can help companies ensure that their products and storage systems adhere to all sanitary guidelines, and that they don't put off consumers by trying to flog them fresh, clean fruit in grotty containers!

So while the food industry requires box and basket washers, large catering businesses may feel content with their commercial dishwashers. Right? Wrong. It may seem sufficient to have clean cutlery and crockery, but in a cafeteria, why bother if this food will be served on a filthy tray, or even worse, a tray still dripping with water after being hastily shoved in a standard commercial dishwasher when it has become too unsanitary to use? Yes, there are also tray washers.

These are even more efficient than box and basket washers, cleaning 1200 trays an hour, and can be bought with drying attachments to ensure that the clean trays are not left dripping with water - after all, there is nothing more unappetizing than picking up a tray, ready to pile it high with a meal, only to find it slick with greasy water. Not only is it unsanitary, but also a sure-fire way to put a diner off their lunch.

So while you may think that the dishwasher industry begins and ends with commercial dishwashers, it is important to remember that not only does the food need to come to your restaurants and cafes in some form of container, but you often require a tray to carry your meal. And just as much as you would hate to eat off a filthy plate, you wouldn't want the ingredients to be brought to you in a filthy box, now would you?
Used Car Dealers - Tricks of the Trade

Over the years used car salesmen have been vilified in movies and TV. They have been portrayed as thugs, idiots, socially inadequate and mentally slow. However, many consumers have had dealings with some used car salespeople whom they believe are the perfect candidates for some of today's reality shows about used car lots.

How many complaints can be taken seriously, though? Are these people really as bad as the media have made them out to be? Are all the consumer complaints true? Or embellished? Probably a mixture of both. Consumers all too often forget they played a large role in the bad deal they just got.

Many buyers buy with their eyes and their hearts. Their brains go into neutral once they see some original leather seating or a collector's hood ornament. They sign paperwork they haven't read thoroughly and they believe every word the salesman said during the negotiation process. When the car breaks down or the first bill comes, they are shocked to find out they didn't get the deal they thought.

Is this the dealer's fault? Only partially. He may have lied to you, but unless he was committing out and out fraud behind the scenes, it's up to the consumer to read and understand everything he signs before driving off in the vehicle. Consumers are responsible for making sure that everything that was agreed up or promised is in writing. When it comes to buying a car, there's no such thing as handshake agreements or offline promises. If they won't put it in writing, there's a reason, and it's not one in your best interest.

Financing is another area that people tend to complain about when dealing with used vehicles. Yes, used car loans have higher APRs. It's not the fault of the dealership although they will certainly try to get you to finance through them because they get commissions from the lenders for each loan. These loans cost more because the lenders are taking a higher risk. Too many people walk away from an older used car if it breaks down, and the lender absorbs the loss.

Before getting excited about a particular car, do your research. Bring your laptop with you if you can, and let the salesman know you are researching a particular vehicle. Check blue book pricing, recalls, consumer reviews, MPG, etc.

Don't expect much information on a specific car from your salesman. He can't possibly be an expert in every model out there. If you want specifics, you're on your own. Get test drive, a CarFax report, and a certification from an independent mechanic saying the odometer has not been tampered with. If possible, bring your own mechanic with you so he can look at it before even writing a check for a deposit.

Keeping your clothes clean this summer
Throughout the spring and summer months we all get our sports kits out to go biking, hiking, playing football and generally enjoying the great outdoors! If you've got kids in particular your washing basket will be overflowing with mud splattered, dirt streaked, grass stained laundry. That's all well and good if you have the capacity to deal with such a lot of laundry, but is your washing machine up to the task?
Some appliances such as Indesit washing machines come with programmes dedicated to washing very dirty clothes. On Indesit washing machines this comes under the sports intensive programme which can bust grime from even the most mud caked clothes - we're talking rugby and cross country kits here!
How does the sports intensive wash on Indesit washing machines work?
The sports intensive programme washes a 3kg load at 30 degrees for 75 minutes. The cycle doesn't use high temperatures which is great for preserving the colours of rugby kits - especially as they can often be striped white and red or white and blue - which can run quite easily into each other if washed at high temperatures.
Other programmes available on Indesit washing machines
Indesit washing machines are fantastic appliances for the summer months with their special programmes.
Sports light is a gentle programme especially designed to preserve clothes containing lycra. From swimming costumes to yoga suits and general gym wear, this programme will keep your lightweight sports clothes pristine, without stretching. Because nobody appreciates a misshapen swimming costume! So when you get home from the pool or beach, simply put your family's swimsuits in the washing machine and place on a sports light wash.
The sports light programme runs with a 3kg load, at 30 degrees, and takes less than an hour to complete.
This summer as we've all put on our new white trainers and canvas shoes, only to muddy them up and cover them in grass stains, you'll be pleased to find out about Indesit's special shoes programme. This programme is the only one of its kind and it uses centrifugal force to push the shoes to the sides of the drums to prevent them bashing against each other - damaging the shoes and the drum itself. The drum tumbles in just one direction, again to prevent damage to the shoes and the appliance.
The special shoes programme will wash two pairs of shoes at once at 30 degrees in just 50 minutes.
